| Europe consumes about one third of all global produced portable batteries. Over five billion pieces of these useful mobile energy-sources are sold to european end-user and correspond to a volume of nearly 200 million kilogram. Following our market research and statistics based calculation, table 1 estimates the distribution of batteries put on the market in EU 27 in year 2008/2009.
Depending on EU-member state, the share of rechargeable batteries is between 17 and 23%. The yearly increase of batteries sold could be estimated to 1 – 3%, specifically because of new member state markets, catching up the life standard to EU-average. |
